Mark Haygood, D.O., M.S.
President and Chief Psychiatrist
Dr. Haygood is the CEO and practicing physician at New South Psychiatry. His goal is to promote well-being and positive mental health among his patients. He is happy to call Mobile his home. He began private practice in April of 2018. Dr. Haygood is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist. He has been an attending physician since 2015. He completed his residency at the University of South Alabama after attending medical school at Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He currently serves as the treasurer for the Alabama Psychiatric Physicians Association. His favorite thing about being an outpatient psychiatrist is establishing long lasting relationships with his patients.
Jim Hart, D.O.
Dr. Hart received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2004. He has completed residencies in Psychiatry in 2008. He has worked as an inpatient and outpatient general psychiatrist in the Mobile area since 2009. He is passionate about teaching psychiatry to new practitioners as faculty at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM). He has received many professional awards and honors in the field of psychiatry. His favorite thing about New South Psychiatry is the friendly small business atmosphere of the office.
Theresa Rehm-Hamilton, PA-C, MS
Theresa Rehm-Hamilton is a Psychiatric Physician Assistant who joined New South Psychiatry in October of 2018. She obtained a Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of South Alabama in 2006. She worked in the mental health field for 10 years prior to attending PA school. She worked in outpatient and inpatient settings, gaining experience in neuropsychological assessment, therapy, and psychological evaluations. She became licensed and board certified as a Physician Assistant in 2018. Her favorite thing about New South Psychiatry is “helping patients realize that dark times don’t last forever.” She is thankful for the family atmosphere, learning experiences, and great colleagues.
Laura Gale, LICSW
Laura Gale is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, who joined New South Psychiatry as our Clinical Therapist in May of 2019. Laura has experience working with people of all ages as both a Social Worker and Therapist. She provides a combination of different therapeutic techniques in addition to “talk therapy” and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Laura earned both her bachelors degree in 1993 and her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Alabama 2002. She says, “As the newest member of the team, I am excited to offer therapies tailored to the specific needs of the patient.”
Beverly Ales, APRN, PMHNP-BC, MSN
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Beverly Ales is a certified psychiatric nurse practitioner who joined the New South Psychiatry team in March of 2020. Beverly enjoys helping others and the community.
Kina Hooks, APRN, PMHNP-BC, MSN
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Kina Hooks is a certified psychiatric nurse practitioner who joined the New South Psychiatry team in October of 2019. Kina is looking forward to helping those in need of mental health services and hopes to make a difference within the community.
